Exro has developed and patented a unique method of “self-optimizing” electric motors and generators to reduce losses in high variability applications. Our first commercial application is wind power, where we are collaborating with numerous turbine makers to convert their existing geared turbines to direct-drive using our Variable Input Electrical Generator (VIEG).
The benefit is an immediate increase in the turbine’s annual output along with a significant reduction in downtime and annual maintenance. In addition to wind power, our technology platform has a compelling value proposition for run of river and marine power, as well as electric vehicles, industrial motors, portable power and other inherently variable applications where reducing losses equates to a material economic benefit.
Ben Nyland joined Exro technologies as the COO at its founding, bringing a vast knowledge of technology communications and business development to the team.
Ben worked as an engineer for IBM and Nortel, before transitioning to the role of Internet marketing manager at a startup software company in 1996. Here his fascination with the ever-changing Internet world emerged. He learned the ins and outs of electronic software delivery and the fundamentals of marketing software on the Web. In 1998, Ben joined Workfire Technologies, a software developer for advancing business-critical web applications. As Marketing Director, Ben oversaw marketing communications and product management.
After Packeteer acquired Workfire, Ben has held a number of positions in the technology finance arena including Executive VP of a Boltons Capital Corporation, VP Operations/Finance for BuildIT Systems Corp., and most recently president of Rampworth Capital Services, a boutique consulting group specializing in value maximization pre capital events.
Ben’s passion for working with small and mid-sized companies to implement sustainable growth strategies, combined with a passion to contribute to making renewable energy economically viable is what attracted him to Exro technologies. Ben graduated with a Bachelor’s in Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Alberta.
